Cusco
and Machu Pichu
|

Cusco |
| |
|
Cusco
is one of the worlds leading tourist destinations and it doesn't dissapoint.
We spent days exploring Inca ruins and the winding streets of the Spanish
town which is still largely intact. We thought the impressive stonework
and scale of Sacsayhuman was the most impressive site we saw on the trip. |

The
Inca Trail and Machu Pichu |
We
decided to walk the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu - surely one of the worlds
greatest walks. The trail is quite tough going in places but the stunning
scenery makes up for it. We both felt a great sense of acheivment when
we arrived at Machu Pichu early on the 4th day. |

Machu
Pichu itself was fantastic - we had the place virtually to ourselves until
the first tourist bus arrived at about 10.30. The setting is enhanced
by the way many of the stones are carved in exact imitation of the surrounding
peaks. |
